Ladies in Hades and the Dyval Wears Prada

An Assessment of Chaos – Conversational Interlude IX

We join Trent and Zander debating over the details between Bex’s and Jaena’s Assesments of the Chaos Generators along with the merits of sharing the information vs keeping it separate.

Trent3 thumb 48
“The two should go together, but I suspect it’s a bad idea to provide Jaena with the manual that Bex made. So we’ll have to piece it together ourselves from these two sources. Neither of them had the whole.”

“Why are we fighting the Deus Ex? We suspect giving her all the information is bad, but what if that’s what is supposed to happen?”
Trent3 thumb 48
“Jaena is pure selfish and profit-oriented.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“Who cares if it’s a bad choice? We can fix it later if that’s the case.”
Trent3 thumb 48
“I would not dare give her the manual. What could this technology do in the wrong hands? What IS this technology doing in the wrong hands?”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“What if we’re keeping it out of the right hands”
Trent3 thumb 48
“What if this “flaw” were refined and turned against us?"
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“Sell it to her for a percentage of profits, then we follow the money trail. Because she’ll ensure there is one.”
Trent3 thumb 48
“She has ties with the criminal underground in Lazlo. AND she can not have a trail easily enough.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“Balance is the key Trent. Good and Evil are just two aspects based on context.”
Trent3 thumb 48
“No, I don’t think it’s that simple.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“In many a good story, the good guys need the help from the unsavory because the unsavory are 1) equipped to deal with these situations and 2) They don’t like change. "
Trent3 thumb 48
“I firmly believe that giving Bex’s assessment to Jaena will be like giving the keys to a hovercar to a bored toddler. Or like giving a thermonuclear bomb to a dinosaur.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“What if the only reason we feel like we’re being oppressed by the Deus Ex is because we consistently go in directions other than what it’s machinations have calculated?”
Trent3 thumb 48
“Are you advocating some sort of divine influence that we would appease by doing this?”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“The Noodles of Fate, my friend”
Trent3 thumb 48
“Imagine anyone being able to have their very own Chaos Generators. Imagine… imagine the Deevils being able to replace the ones we broke?”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“It would be chaos.”
Trent3 thumb 48
YES.
YES IT WOULD.
Why do you advocate this?”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“We’ve been fighting Chaos at every step of the way, and it’s always one step ahead. Imagine a game of tug and war. We’re pulling and pulling and they are dragging us. Well what if we pushed? And used their momentum against them. It’s the base principle in Aikido. Use your enemies strengths against them”
Trent3 thumb 48
“…”
Trent3 thumb 48
“So you suggest this might… throw them off balance? It’s an intriguing thought. To thwart and frustrate Chaos…”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“It already fights with itself as we found with Rasputin”
Trent3 thumb 48
“But no, the only goal Chaos has is chaos. MORE chaos would only make them stronger. We’re dancing back and forth with “what if’s” and “maybe’s”. Neither of us can know right now. There is no way to know."
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“What if in all the confusion, we insert a fail-safe. Either a kill switch or design flaw-”
Trent3 thumb 48
“As much as I love technology, I don’t know it well enough to be able to do something like that. And I suspect Jaena or her team of Techno-Wizards would be able to find something like that.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“-and in an instant, at the right time, chaos lines up in order. Operate in harmony”
Trent3 thumb 48
“Right now, that’s what the existing devices are designed to do. Operate in harmony at the right time. In about three years. Re-creating the chaos of the coming of the Rifts. And shaping that energy for whatever the Deevil’s purpose it. I’ve been at the original event. It was… powerful.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“Believe me, I am familiar with the Event. I can’t imagine the earth surviving another.”
Trent3 thumb 48
“One of the few remaining advantages we have against this threat is that the Chaos Generators are irreplaceable. Or, so I hope. At the rate our world is going mad, I don’t know if it could survive even those three years.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“We’re becoming predictable. Did you see the army on the other side of the Russian gate?”
Trent3 thumb 48
“Yeah, the video feed recorded it. I noticed it was there because of those others that were on the other side. NOT because of us. And we have TIME on our side, anyway! When we’re done here, we’ll take out another one during that same time. sigh If only your friend Bex was a Techno-Wizard. She seemed much more trustworthy.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“Trust no one. "
Trent3 thumb 48
“That’s hardly productive. I trust you.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“Trust no ‘one’ Trust ‘every one’. Have faith in the sum of the parts, Trent.”
Trent3 thumb 48
“‘Faith?’ HAHAHA
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“In the end, everyone gets to eat their bowl of spaghetti.”
Trent3 thumb 48
“Faith is what put the 14th century in this predicament, and the only reason why we had to come and fix it.
I will put my trust in logic and certainty. Not “Faith” or “Spaghetti. This is my concession to you Zander, and you may take it or leave it. IF for some reason I am unable to accompany JFC back to our time, I will turn over Bex’s assessment to you. And you may make the decision with it that you feel is appropriate.”
15912466 a man in a gas mask in the smoke black background thumb 48
“Fair enough. Until then, I will hold any action on the matter.”

Trent wakes up and looks around. Zander is sitting across from him in Lotus position and is phased out, ethereal. Sherlock rests between them, a faint tendril of smoke still whisping from it.

Comments

My favorite part was the surprise at the end. I was like, what?

That was AWESOME! I love this conversational interlude!

Cannot believe that this was the last log….and the only log since October.
We cannot comment on anything except adventure logs- so get writing Ladies crew!!!
